- Winner of six British Open Championships - The first golfer to win both the U.S. Open and British Open - Created the Vardon Grip used by 70% of golfers today - The name sake for the Vardon Trophy, awarded on both the European and American tours
“The Stylist” Harry Vardon is widely recognized as bringing golf into the modern age. His grip and his swing, along with his thought process and strategies are used by many of today’s foremost golf professionals and amateurs. His moniker of “The Stylist”, which replaced his name in many of the publications of the day, was well earned. Mr. Vardon brought plus fours, or knickers, onto the golf course eliminating dew-soaked and heavy trousers. Suits and sport coats were considered a must for gentlemen of the era on the course. Mr. Vardon designed his own sport coat of tweed with a half belt in the back and bi-swing shoulders allowing for easier movement for a more comfortable swing.
